Jet Ski Safari from Airlie Beach: One Hour or the Longer Ride?
3 min read
For a first jet ski ride, the 1-hour Hour of Power is the simpler pick: it has more reviews, and you are back on land after about an hour. The Airlie Adventure tour suits riders who want longer on the water and more included: about 1.5 hours of riding, a courtesy bus within Airlie Beach and the riding gear. Neither tour asks for a licence or previous experience.
The two tours
Hour of Power. The Hour of Power costs €122.91 and is rated 4.7/5 from 606 reviews. The booking page lists a guided ride of about one hour along the Airlie Beach coastline on a Yamaha jet ski, in a group of up to 10. You meet at the Airlie Jetski Tours check-in lounge inside Rufus & Co Cafe on Port Drive and arrive 30 minutes early for a mandatory safety briefing. Riders travel in single file at the distance the guide sets. The page mentions turtles, dolphins and dugongs, with humpback whales possible in migration season, and says plainly that sightings are a possibility, not a guarantee. Life jacket, jet ski and guide are included; hotel transfers, food and drinks are not.
Airlie Adventure. The Airlie Adventure tour costs €161.59, is rated 4.8/5 from 214 reviews and is priced per group of up to one, so one rider on one jet ski. The booking page lists 2.5 hours in total: a safety briefing, gearing up and a demonstration first, then about 1.5 hours on a Sea-Doo jet ski in the Whitsunday Island Marine Park, in a group of up to 18. A free courtesy bus picks you up and drops you off within the Airlie Beach area. Riding gear is included (life jacket, rash or thermal top, wetsuit shorts, polarised sunglasses, hat and sunscreen), as are bottled water and photos of the tour, posted free on Facebook. The page names turtles, dugongs and seabirds, and humpback whales from July to September.
Who may ride
The two pages set similar rules:
- Drivers must be at least 16 and passengers at least 8. On the Airlie Adventure tour, riders under 18 need an indemnity form signed by a parent or guardian.
- Both tours exclude children under 8 and pregnant women; the Hour of Power also excludes people with mobility impairments.
- Everyone must be able to swim (the Airlie Adventure page says: swim wearing a life jacket) and understand English well enough to follow the safety briefing.
- The weight limit is 200 kg per jet ski, combined if two people ride.
- The Airlie Adventure page asks for a reasonable level of fitness, because conditions can be physically demanding.
On passengers: both pages say a jet ski takes up to two people, but both prices are for one rider on one jet ski, and the Hour of Power page says outright that the option currently offered is one person on one jet ski and that you should not assume a passenger is included. If you want to ride two-up, check the selected option before you book.
Both tours list free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
Who it suits
It suits confident swimmers who like speed and would rather spend one or two hours than a full day on the water. It is a poor fit for anyone who wants a quiet, drifting trip. For that, a sunset cruise or a Whitehaven day trip fits better. For more activity options see jet ski and adventure tours.
Our recommendation
Book the Hour of Power if an hour is enough and you can walk to the cafe at Port of Airlie yourself. Choose the Airlie Adventure tour if you want the longer ride, the courtesy bus within Airlie Beach and the riding gear included.
