Sailing the Whitsundays: Day Trip or Two Nights on Board?
4 min read
Take a day sail if you want Whitehaven Beach and a few hours under sail; book a night or two on board if you want to snorkel more than once and see the stars from the boat. Both kinds leave from Airlie Beach, and the overnight options are a different price bracket, so decide first how much time you have.
Day sails
The Camira sailing day is a catamaran trip of 10 hours costing €161.59. The description covers a visit to Whitehaven Beach, a walk to Hill Inlet, a BBQ lunch, and beer, wine, cider and soft drinks. It has 1,543 reviews at 4.7/5.
The Providence day sail costs €130.40 and is listed as 9 hours to a full day. You can add a lunch option, help pull up the sails, visit the Hill Inlet lookout and snorkel the fringing reef.
The Langford sandbar sail takes 8 hours and costs €122.97. It cruises to the Langford Sandbar, with beanbags on deck, snorkelling or a walk to Langford Lookout, and sails back into the sunset off Airlie Beach. BYO refers to drinks: a buffet lunch and morning and afternoon snacks are included, and you may bring your own alcohol, but no glass and no red wine. The booking page excludes children under 12, pregnant women and people over 80.
The adults-only Whitehaven sailing tour lasts 10 hours and costs €184.05. It sails on Lady Enid, a 72 ft timber yacht taking up to 24 guests, walks to the Hill Inlet lookout from Tongue Bay, snorkels for about 40 minutes and ends with sparkling wine at sunset. No one under 18 is taken, and the page also excludes people prone to seasickness.
Two nights, one night or three days
These are listed under different durations, so read the titles carefully. The 2-day, 1-night trip on the maxi yacht Matador costs €308.83; its description covers snorkelling, Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet, stargazing and fresh meals, and it returns around 4 to 5 pm on day two. The 2-night trip with meals is listed as 3 days and costs €364.98, but you are back at the marina around 8 to 9 am on the third morning; it names Luncheon Bay, Caves Cove and Blue Pearl Bay as snorkel sites. The 2-day, 2-night Avatar trip on a racing trimaran is also listed as 3 days with the same early return, costs €405.54 and includes the hike to the Hill Inlet lookout.
Two more are for a specific crowd. The Prosail maxi yacht trip costs €454.82 for 2 days and 2 nights on an ex-race boat, with real sailing; it takes no one under 18 and no non-swimmers, alcohol is BYO, and free cancellation ends 7 days before departure. The Habibi trip costs €305.09 for 2 days and 1 night and is described as geared to travellers aged 18 to 30; the page excludes under-18s, people over 60 and pregnant women, and also needs cancelling 7 days ahead.

Season and swimming
The Queensland Government puts the higher-risk season for marine stingers between November and May and recommends considering a full-body lycra suit; ask each operator what is supplied. Queensland Parks also warns that there are generally no rangers on site and that rapidly rising tidal currents can be dangerous when swimming. If your plan is only the beach, compare the eco-cruises and raft trips first.
Our recommendation
For one day under sail, choose the Camira catamaran day. If you can spare two days, the racing-yacht trip with one night adds stargazing without a third day. See all of them under Whitsundays sailing trips and overnight sailing.
